Cate Frances

Author, editor and traveller.

Cate is a writer, editor and world-traveller based on the South-West coast of England.

Holder of an English Literature degree from the Open University, Cate is a long-standing member of Brixham Writer’s Group and more recently joined Plymouth Writing Group as a part-time member. She had two pieces included in Brixham Writer’s Group anthology Written in the Sand, published in 2022.

Co-owner of Into the West Publishing, Cate is the author of Into Eden, a self-published travel memoir that attracted positive reviews in both the UK and USA.

Cate travels where and whenever possible and so far has hiked into the Grand Canyon, climbed (most of) Mount Kilimanjaro, spent six weeks driving the Pacific Northwest of America, and another six following old Route 66 with her now-husband. She regularly takes part in charity challenges including hikes and two skydives. When unable to take a longer trip, she enjoys exploring European cities and has enjoyed Rome, Paris, Budapest, Barcelona, Amsterdam and Dublin.

An experienced copywriter and editor, Cate has freelanced for an international advertising agency and on book projects including Pleasures Past, Remembered, a memoir by David Wallis which is available through Waterstones and South Devon bookshops. Since 2020, she has been the lead editor of Amon Hen, the UK Tolkien Society’s members’ magazine and is also part of the Tolkien and the World project which supplies underfunded schools and libraries with copies of J.R.R. Tolkien’s most famous works.

In 2022 she was shortlisted and highly commended for the Exeter Story Prize.

Her many literary influences include Jodi Picoult, Aaron Sorkin and Taylor Swift.
